Officer Jared Arsenault has been awarded the Newington Police Department Life Saving Medal for his actions on October 29th, 2022. Officer Arsenault was dispatched to the Walmart located at 2200 Woodbury Avenue for a medical emergency involving a male that was unconscious but breathing. On scene, understanding the gravity of the situation, Officer Arsenault recognized the male was no longer breathing and had no pulse. Officer Arsenault distinguished himself by performing an extraordinary physical act of CPR on the male for almost 2 minutes until relieved by members of the Newington Fire Department. Officer Arsenault exhibited quick thinking, compassion and exemplary situational awareness which ultimately saved the man’s life.

The Life Saving Medal is presented to any member who distinguishes him or herself by performing an extraordinary physical act, when the employee’s direct actions result in the saving of a human life with disregard for personal safety, or renders lifesaving techniques, using exceptional knowledge and behavior in the preservation of human life.

Captain Brandon Smart was promoted to Captain with the Newington Police Department in June of 2021. Captain Smart worked towards obtaining CALEA accreditation for the police department. The Newington Police Department was CALEA Accredited on November 20, 2021.

Sergeant Andrew Wood competed with 1 other candidate for the position of Patrol Sergeant. After a rigorous written exercise and an oral board, Sergeant Wood scored highest. Sergeant Wood was sworn in during September 2021, by Chief Michael Bilodeau as the new Patrol Sergeant for the Newington Police Department.

Sergeant Wood was named the New Hampshire Retail Association’s 2021 Law Enforcement Partner of the Year, on January 15th, 2021,

Each year, the New Hampshire Retail Association’s Law Enforcement Partner of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding member of the law enforcement community who has gone above and beyond to help retailers and open the lines of communication between retailers and law enforcement.

Eric Braiser, General Manager of the Mall at Fox Run in Newington, commented “Officer Wood has a passion for protecting the public that is second to none, and to the tremendous benefit of all the merchants in the seacoast area, his focus is on retail.”

On September 15, 2017 Retired Chief Stimson was recognized for his years of dedicated service to the Town of Newington, as the Town’s first appointed Chief of Police. Several of the present and former Board of Selectmen and Police Commissioners, along with some Town residents, attended the ceremony held at the Newington Police Department. Chief Stimson was instrumental in getting approval to have the police department built in 1989. The upstairs room was chosen as the Town’s Emergency Operations Center and it was determined that the EOC would be dedicated in honor of Chief Stimson. Chief Stimson is a graduate of the 25^th NH Police Academy and the 139^th Session of the FBI National Academy. Chief Stimson retired at the end of July 2001, after serving for 27 years as the Chief of Police for the Town of Newington.
