February 1st, 2017 – Present

Michael D. Bilodeau was sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the Newington Police Department on February 1, 2017. Chief Bilodeau received his Bachelor of Science, Criminal Justice major from Southern Vermont University, Bennington, VT in 1993; Chief Bilodeau attended the FBI National Academy, Quantico VA, Session #242 in 2010; attended the 116th New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy and the Virginia Basic Police Academy, Richmond, VA. Chief Bilodeau worked as a Police Officer for the Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department, from 1993 to 1997. In 1998, he began his career with the Durham New Hampshire Police Department, where he worked as Detective from 2001 to 2006, during that time he became Master Patrolman. In 2006, Chief Bilodeau was promoted to Sergeant from 2006 to 2014. In 2014, he was promoted to Detective Sergeant. Chief Bilodeau received the Medal of Valor from the Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department, the Meritorious Unit Award; Meritorious Police Service Award and the Good Conduct Award. We welcome Chief Bilodeau to the Town of Newington.

Executive Administrator

March 29th, 2021 – Present

Taylor Fiore was hired in March 2021. Taylor graduated from Epping High School and joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduating. She served in the New Hampshire Air National Guard from 2012-2021 as a Personnel Specialist. Prior to joining the Newington Police Department, she worked full time as an Administrator for the Command Section, and also as the NCOIC of Wing Staff Personnel Programs, Pease Air National Guard Base, NH.

Full Time Officers

 November 26th, 2012 – Present

Captain Brandon D. Smart was hired as a full-time patrolman in November 2012. Captain Smart is a graduate of the 160th New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy. Captain Smart is a graduate of Exeter High School and attended the University of New Hampshire and was a member of the Army ROTC. Captain Smart served in the U.S. Army from April 2005 until April 2011, and was deployed to serve in the Combat Deployment District of Zormat Paktia Province, Afghanistan as a MRAP Driver, Turot Gunner, M249 Light Machine Gunner, and .50 Cal Machine Gunner. Prior to coming to the Newington Police Department, Captain Smart served as a Corrections Officer for the Rockingham County Department of Corrections. Captain Smart was promoted to Captain in June 2021.

Lieutenant Andrew Wood was hired in July 2016. Lieutenant Wood is a graduate of the 173rd New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Academy. Lieutenant Wood has prior police experience with Town of Madbury working as a part-time Officer from 2011-2016. Lieutenant Wood is a Field Training Officer, O.C. Instructor, Physical Fitness Instructor, Background Investigator, and an Explosive Detection K9 Handler. Lieutenant Wood is also a Task Force Officer (TFO) with the Rockingham County Drug Task Force. He is the recipient of the Retail Association award for the State of New Hampshire. Lieutenant Wood is an Army veteran who served as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear NCOIC. Lieutenant Wood was promoted in January 2024.

K9 Augie is a yellow lab who came to the Newington Police Department in January 2020. Augie is a certified Explosive Detection Canine (EDC) through the Connecticut State Police and also certified through the federal agency, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Sergeant James Meyers was hired in October 2018. Sergeant Meyers is a graduate of the 2019 New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy. Sergeant Meyers has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law/Justice from Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. Sergeant Meyers was previously employed with Sig Sauer Academy in Exeter, N.H. Sergeant Meyers is a Field Training Officer and Firearms Instructor. Sergeant Meyers was promoted in January 2024.

Detective Sean J. O’Reilly was hired in December 2011. Detective O’Reilly is a graduate of the 2005 New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy. Detective O’Reilly attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was also a member of the Air National Guard. Detective O’Reilly was previously employed with the Middleton Police Department. Detective O’Reilly has prior training in several areas of police work to include K-9 Drug dog handler, Critical Incident Management, Taser Electronic Control Device Academy, Advanced Car Control and FTO Officer training.

Patrol Officer Jared A. Arsenault was hired in April 2019. Officer Arsenault is a graduate of the 2014 New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Academy. Officer Arsenault comes to Newington Police Department with prior police experience with the Brentwood and South Hampton Police Departments. Officer Arsenault is a Filed Training Officer and PepperBall Instructor.

Patrol Officer Brian Whyte was hired in October 2021. Officer Whyte is a 2022 graduate of the New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Academy.  Prior to being hired by the Newington Police Department, Officer Whyte had an extensive 30-year career in the Power Generation and Maintenance Industry with various Maintenance and Leadership roles. Having a career in Law Enforcement as a Police Officer has always been a desire for Officer Whyte and is now ready to serve and protect the Town of Newington. Officer Whyte states that it is never too late to fulfill your career dreams and he is looking forward to being part of the community.

Patrol Officer Kyle Hume was hired in September of 2022. Officer Hume graduated with the 191st New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Academy in 2023. Prior to being hired by the Newington Police Department, Officer Hume attended Merrimack College, majoring in health sciences, and was also a member of the football team. Becoming a Police Officer has been a longtime goal of Officer Hume, and he is proud to protect and serve the Town of Newington.

Part Time Officers

July 22nd, 2011 – Present

Officer Douglas J. Lorenz was hired as a part-time officer in August 2011. Officer Lorenz worked part-time with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. Officer Lorenz previously retired from the Newington Police Department as a full-time sergeant after 20 years of service to the Town of Newington.

 

 

 

 

May 17th, 1999 – Present

Officer Scott Blaisdell returned to the Newington Police Department as a Part Time Officer in 2018.  Officer Blaisdell had previously worked as a full-time Officer for our agency from 1999-2003.  Officer Blaisdell has been in Law Enforcement for 23 years, working full time for the Rye Police Department, where he currently holds the rank of Deputy Chief.  Officer Blaisdell is a Field Training Officer, Taser Defensive Tactics Instructor and is also a Crisis Negotiator on the Seacoast Emergency Response Team.

Prosecutor Brian S. Newcomer retired on December 31, 2016, as a full-time Captain, after 30 years of service to the Town of Newington and its residents.  Brian Newcomer is now serving in a part-time capacity as Prosecutor for the department.
